You are doing the work, and you cannot see it landing. You teach, you hold, you speak the truth that matters—and then the person walks away, and you have no idea if anything took root. For weeks or months or years, there is only silence. The doubt arrives quietly: Did any of it matter? Am I just talking into a void? You carry other people, and in this particular darkness, nobody is carrying you.

The seed pressed into soil

Picture a gardener’s hand pressing a seed down into dark earth—not violent, not uncertain, but deliberate and final. The hand presses, holds for a moment, then releases. The gardener steps back. There is nothing to see now but soil. No green, no promise, no sign that anything is happening at all. The seed is in the darkness where roots form, where the first reaching happens in complete concealment. A week passes. Two weeks. The soil looks identical to the day the seed went in. The gardener knows—because she has done this before—that underneath, something is breaking open, is sending out the first thread of a root, is beginning its invisible work. But she cannot see it. Nobody can. And yet it is the most real and active thing in that whole garden.

This is what you are living. You are the gardener. The seed is every word you have spoken, every truth you have held steady for someone else, every time you showed up as a healer or a teacher or a leader—the person who does not break, who knows the way forward, who can be trusted in the dark. The soil is the other person’s inner life, the part of them you cannot see into. And the number 737 arrives to tell you what is true in that darkness: the growth is real. It is accelerating. It is happening right now, in the part of their life you have no access to, and you need to know it is not delayed. It is not absent. It is pressing forward underground.

Why 737 keeps arriving when you cannot measure the impact

You have a particular gift—the ability to speak truth into a room and stay steady while other people come apart. Teachers have this. Healers have this. Leaders have this. The ones who hold others do not shake. And because you do not shake, you are often the last to know that something in them has actually shifted. They carry the change quietly, internally, in the months you cannot see. They do not report back. They are not obligated to. And you—you are left with your hand still on the soil, waiting for a sign that never comes to you directly.

737 is the number that arrives to interrupt that waiting. It says: the underground work is the real work. Not the moment you see the green shoot breaking through—that comes later, and some of it may never come to you at all. The real work is the germination, the root-pressing, the invisible strengthening that happens because you pressed something true into someone’s inner earth. The gardener does not get to watch roots form. She only knows they form because she has seen, over time, what emerges. 737 arrives to tell you that the time in between—the time you are living now, the months when you see nothing—is not a failure. It is the season where everything is actually building.

What to do when the darkness feels like wasted effort

The thing you need to hear is this: your work is not conditional on your being able to measure it. You do not plant a seed and then refuse to believe in the root unless you can excavate it and hold it in your hand. That is not how gardens work, and it is not how the human soul works either. What you have spoken is already inside them, already reaching, already making its way deeper into the places where real change happens. You cannot see it, and that invisibility is not a problem—it is the whole point.

But you are human, and humans need something to hold on to. So here is what I would ask: reach out to one person you taught or helped or spoke truth to, six months ago or two years ago. Not to ask them if it helped. Not to fish for reassurance. Simply to say hello, to remind them you are still here, to let them know you did not forget them. And when they respond—and they will, because people remember the ones who truly see them—you will hear, in some small way, what the soil has been holding all this time. Sometimes the green does not break through in the person’s public life. Sometimes it breaks through in the way they show up for someone else, or in a choice they make alone at midnight, or in a conversation you never know happened. A good therapist or a trusted spiritual director can help you separate what is yours to see from what is not yours to manage—they will help you distinguish between the ego’s need to be thanked and the soul’s need to be true. Both are real; one is yours to tend, and the other belongs to the earth.

I have no idea if anything I said mattered to them at all The impact is happening in the soil, underground, in the part of their inner life you cannot access—and it is already at work
They would have told me if it changed anything Some people integrate silently, in private, and never send a report back—that is not the same as the seed never taking root
Maybe I am not a real teacher/healer/leader if I cannot see results The truest work is the invisible work, and you know this because you have seen it in your own life—the quiet shifts that happened because someone spoke a truth into the dark
All these months of hearing nothing means it did not land Germination takes time, and the darkness underground is the whole season—not a delay before the real season begins

A little help, while you’re here

  • Write the name of one person you helped or taught on a piece of paper, and write one sentence about what truth you spoke into their life. Keep it somewhere you will see it for a week. Do not contact them; just remember deliberately.
  • The next time you feel the pull to reach out to someone and check whether it landed, do reach out—but change the aim. Ask them about their life now, listen to where they are, do not ask whether you helped. Listen for what emerges.
  • When the doubt hits hardest, go outside and place your hand on soil or a plant that is taller than it was a season ago. You do not need to say anything. Just remember that you cannot see the roots, and the plant is still growing.

When the green breaks through

Here is what a gardener learns, if she gardens long enough: the time in the soil is not wasted time. It is the only time anything real happens. The visible green that breaks through the earth is only the announcement of what the roots have already done. And the plant that grows—tall, thick, capable of making seed itself—that plant is not a miracle that occurred the moment the green appeared. That plant was being built in the darkness, month by month, in the part where nobody could see it happening.

You are building something in the people you teach and heal and lead. You cannot see it, but it is real, and 737 arrives to tell you it is accelerating right now, in the darkness where you cannot measure it. The seed was planted. Your hand did the pressing. And now the soil is holding what you gave, is breaking it open, is sending it out in a thousand directions you will never trace. Some of what grows will break through far from you. Some will break through in ways you never witness. Some will grow so tall and strong that the person forgets the original seed was ever small. None of that changes the truth: you did the work. You pressed it down. You stepped back. And the earth—that honest, dark, faithful earth—has never once failed a gardener who trusted it.
