Kundalini Awakening: What No One Tells You

by Shams-Tabriz in Blog0 Comments

The mainstream conversation around kundalini awakening celebrates the visions, the energy, the transcendence-but rarely speaks of the countless people left traumatized, dissociated, and broken by these forceful practices.

As someone who has worked with souls recovering from kundalini dangers and severe kundalini symptoms, I need to share a truth the spiritual marketplace doesn’t want you to hear: there is a gentler, safer way to awaken that honors your natural rhythm rather than forcing your system into crisis.

The Problem With Mainstream Kundalini Practices

Let me be direct: what’s happening in the spiritual community around kundalini awakening is reckless.

Practices that may have once existed within careful spiritual hierarchies-with years of preparation, qualified teachers, and protective structures-have been stripped of context and sold as weekend workshops, online courses, and DIY enlightenment protocols.

The Problem With Mainstream Kundalini Practices

The promise is seductive: activate your kundalini energy, experience rapid spiritual awakening, unlock your divine potential.

But what they don’t tell you is how many people end up in prolonged states of confusion, dissociation, psychological destabilization, and genuine trauma as a result of forcing an experience their system was not ready to integrate.

I do not promote these practices. I’ve witnessed too much damage.

And I want you to know there is another way-a path that creates the same depth of transformation without breaking you open prematurely.

The Kundalini Symptoms They Don’t Warn You About

When people come to me after engaging in kundalini practices-whether through breathwork, forced kriyas, chakra piercing techniques, or other activation methods-the kundalini symptoms they describe are rarely the blissful experiences promised in the marketing materials.

Instead, I hear about months or even years of chronic insomnia and sleep disturbances that won’t resolve, feeling energetically shattered with pain or burning sensations throughout the body, inability to be present in daily life or hold down work

Severe anxiety and panic that seems to come from nowhere, feeling disconnected from reality or trapped between worlds, unexplained emotional volatility that damages relationships, and a pervasive sense that something in their system is fundamentally broken.

The Kundalini Symptoms No One Warns You About

These are not signs of spiritual progress. These are signs of a system in crisis-energy moving through channels that weren’t prepared, consciousness expanding faster than the nervous system can integrate, the psyche fragmenting under pressure it was never meant to endure in this way.

The Kundalini Dangers No One Takes Seriously

The spiritual community often dismisses concerns about kundalini dangers as fear-based thinking or resistance to transformation. But what I’ve witnessed is not fear-it’s the aftermath of real harm done to real people by practices taught irresponsibly.

Psychospiritual Crisis Mistaken for Awakening

When kundalini awakening is forced prematurely, what occurs is often not enlightenment but psychospiritual emergency. The person may experience visual and auditory phenomena they can’t integrate, grandiose beliefs about being chosen or specially gifted, inability to distinguish between spiritual insight and psychological disturbance, complete loss of grounding in consensual reality, and trauma responses that get labeled as ‘purification’ or ‘ego death.’

These states require careful, compassionate support-not encouragement to ‘surrender deeper’ or ‘trust the process.’ Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is help someone return to stability, not push them further into crisis.

Nervous System Overwhelm and Lasting Dysregulation

Your nervous system is not meant to be flooded with intense energy it has no capacity to process. When kundalini symptoms include chronic activation, hypersensitivity to everything, or complete collapse into shutdown, this is your nervous system signaling it’s been pushed beyond its window of tolerance.

Some people never fully recover their baseline regulation after forcing kundalini awakening. They live with lasting hypersensitivity, difficulty being in their bodies, or chronic nervous system dysregulation that impacts every area of life. This is one of the kundalini dangers that gets minimized or ignored entirely.

Isolation From Those Who Could Actually Help

Perhaps the cruelest aspect of irresponsible kundalini teaching is how it isolates people in their suffering. When someone is told that their distress is ‘just the ego resisting,’ that they need to ‘surrender more deeply,’ or that seeking help outside the spiritual framework means they’re not truly committed-they become trapped.

They withdraw from friends and family who express concern. They don’t seek medical or psychological support when needed. They stay in prolonged crisis, believing this is what awakening is supposed to feel like. This is not spiritual devotion. This is abandonment dressed up as higher consciousness.

Why I Don’t Endorse Kundalini Practices

I believe that kundalini awakening practices may have once existed within careful spiritual hierarchies, where teachers understood the profound responsibility of working with such powerful energies.

There may have been wisdom in those traditional contexts-proper preparation, qualified guidance, protective structures, years of foundational work before even approaching these practices.

But that context has been lost. What we have now is the democratization of dangerous techniques, taught by people who themselves don’t fully understand what they’re invoking, sold to seekers who have no framework for what they’re about to experience.

Why I Don't Endorse Kundalini Practices

The mainstream approach to kundalini awakening is extremely reckless and potentially destructive.

I’ve encountered too many people-genuinely sincere seekers-who’ve come to me in states of prolonged defeat, confusion, dissociation, and trauma as a direct result of these practices. I cannot in good conscience point anyone toward that path.

There Is a Gentler Way to Profound Transformation

Here is what I know to be true: the same depth of spiritual awakening, the same catalyzing transformation, the same communion with your divine nature-all of this can be achieved through gentle practices that follow the natural arc and rhythm of each individual soul.

You don’t need to force energy through your body or blast open your chakras. You don’t need to endure months of crisis to prove your spiritual commitment. True awakening is not meant to shatter you-it’s meant to reveal the wholeness that has always been present.

Working With Your Unique Timeline

Each person’s awakening has its own organic unfolding. Your system knows what it’s ready for and when. My work is about creating the conditions for that natural emergence-not forcing anything, not overriding your body’s wisdom, not adhering to someone else’s timeline or protocol.

Through gentle energy work, compassionate inquiry, and honoring your nervous system’s capacity, we can facilitate profound shifts without creating trauma. The transformation is no less real, no less deep, no less sacred. But it happens in collaboration with your whole being, not in opposition to it.

Dissolving Wounds, Not Creating New Ones

True spiritual work dissolves the wounds and limiting beliefs that keep you from recognizing your true nature. It doesn’t add new layers of trauma in the name of purification. It doesn’t require you to endure unnecessary suffering as proof of your dedication.

When we work together, we move at the pace of safety and integration. We honor what emerges without forcing what isn’t ready. We create space for expansion while maintaining the grounding that allows you to actually embody the shifts occurring within you.

Awakening That You Can Actually Live With

The goal is not peak experiences you can’t integrate. It’s not visions you can’t ground. It’s not energy you can’t contain. The goal is awakening to the fullness of who you are in a way that enhances your capacity to be present, loving, and purposeful in your actual life.

This means you can hold down work, maintain relationships, engage with the world while simultaneously deepening into profound spiritual truth. You don’t have to choose between being functional and being awakened. They can coexist beautifully when the path honors your wholeness.

If You’re Already Struggling With Kundalini Awakening

If you’ve already engaged in kundalini practices and are now experiencing difficult kundalini symptoms-chronic overwhelm, dissociation, nervous system dysregulation, psychological distress-please know that you’re not broken, you haven’t failed spiritually, and there is a way forward.

Recovery from kundalini dangers is possible. It requires patience, proper support, and often a complete reorientation away from the ‘push through’ mentality that may have gotten you here in the first place. The work becomes about regulation, integration, and gentle stabilization-allowing your system to find its natural equilibrium again.

This is where I can help. I’ve worked with many souls recovering from these experiences, helping them restore nervous system balance, integrate fragmented parts of self, release trauma held in the body, and reconnect with a spiritual path that doesn’t require them to be in crisis to be valid.

Choosing the Path of Gentleness

Awakening is your birthright. But it doesn’t require force. It doesn’t require crisis. It doesn’t require you to override your body’s wisdom or push past your nervous system’s capacity.

There is profound transformation available to you through practices that honor your natural rhythm, respect your wholeness, and create sustainable change rather than spectacular experiences you can’t integrate.

Whether you’re seeking awakening for the first time or recovering from practices that harmed rather than helped, I’m here to guide you toward the fullness of who you are-gently, safely, and with deep reverence for your unique journey.
