You are holding three versions of yourself at once, and you did not choose to. The past that still has its hooks in you—the healing that is not finished, the wound that opens on certain Tuesdays. The present moment, the one where you are leading, deciding, carrying others, showing up as someone who has it together. And the future you are building, the one that requires you to imagine a version of yourself that does not yet exist, to hold faith in a direction you cannot see all the way down. All three are real. All three are asking something of you right now. You are not broken because you cannot collapse into one.

Three windows, one room

Picture a room with three windows set into a single wall. Through the left pane, you see autumn—the trees stripped bare, the light that gold-orange color that only comes when things are dying and the world has accepted it. Through the middle window, spring is happening—everything tender and reaching, bulbs splitting their skins, a chaos of green, things you cannot yet trust. And through the right pane, full summer light, heavy and certain, the season of ripeness, of things that have already arrived. You stand in that room. You can see all three at once. The light from each season falls on the floor where you are standing and casts three different shadows—one cool and long, one short and confused, one deep and certain. Anyone watching would say: this is impossible. A room cannot have three seasons. And yet there you stand, and there they are, and you are the one inside all of it. This is what you are actually living. This is the 300.

The exhaustion is not a warning sign

The weight you feel is not a sign that you are doing this wrong. It is the sign that you are doing it. A person holding three seasons in one body is exhausted in a way that a person living in only one season will never understand. But that exhaustion is not the failure—the failure would be collapsing, choosing one, abandoning the others. The failure would be shutting one of those windows and pretending that the season on the other side does not exist. You are not collapsing. You are standing in the middle of the room, the light from all three windows falling across you, casting you in three colors at once—and you are still moving. You are still showing up. You are still leading. The 300 is not a warning. It is a recognition. It is the sky saying: I see you doing the harder thing. I see you holding it all. Do not stop now.

Living with the panes open

The first thing you need to know is that you cannot rush the crossing. There is a part of you that wants to force it—to hurry through the healing so the past will release you, to grip harder on the present so it feels solid, to throw yourself faster into the future so you can stop holding this tension. This wanting is so strong that most people listen to it and break themselves. You need a real person in your life—a therapist, a trusted friend, someone whose job it is to help you carry what you are carrying—because this is too much to do alone, and the measure of your strength is not your ability to bear it in silence. The measure of your strength is your willingness to let someone help you hold it. This is not weakness. This is wisdom. The second thing is this: you do not have to move smoothly through all three at once. You can spend a morning in the autumn window, grieving what needs to be grieved, letting the past teach you what it came to teach. Then at noon, close that one most of the way and turn to the spring pane, where things are uncertain and tender and you have to imagine. Then in the evening, open the summer window wide and let yourself feel the weight and certainty of what you are actually doing right now. You do not have to live equally in all three. You just have to stop pretending that one of them is not there.

What runs through your mind What’s actually true
If I were doing this right, I would not be this tired. If you were doing this right, you would be exactly this tired. The crossing requires all of you.
I should be further along by now—shouldn’t the past be finished? The past finishes when it finishes. Your job is not to hurry it. Your job is to keep the window open long enough to receive what it came to teach you.
The future I’m building does not feel real yet, and that means I’m not ready for it. The future never feels real until you step into it. The fact that you are building it anyway—that you are holding faith in it while it is still invisible—is exactly what readiness looks like.
I cannot hold this much longer. Something has to give. Something will change, but it will not be you breaking. It will be the seasons shifting. The crossing is almost done.

A little help, while you’re here

  • Stop for twenty minutes today and deliberately look at one season only. Close the other windows in your mind. Grieve the autumn if that is what is there, or play in the spring, or rest in the summer. Let yourself be fully in one of them. Tomorrow, do this with a different one.
  • Tell one person what you are actually holding. Not a report, not a summary—the actual weight of it. Let them witness you holding it. Do not try to make it smaller so they feel comfortable.
  • Write down one thing the past is still teaching you, one thing the present is asking of you right now, and one thing you are building toward that you cannot yet see. Keep these three sentences somewhere you will find them again.
  • When the exhaustion hits hardest, stand at a window—any real window in your real house—and look outside at one actual season. Remember that you are a room with three windows, not three separate people trying to live in one body.

The room becomes you

There is a moment coming—not now, but coming—when you will realize that the three seasons are not three separate things you are holding anymore. They are three layers of one present moment. The past is not separate from you. It is woven into how you move, how you love, how you know what matters. The present is not separate from you. It is the only real ground you have ever had. And the future is not separate from you. You are already it—you are already building it, already becoming it with every choice you make today. The windows do not go away. They stay open. But you stop standing between them and start understanding that you have always been standing inside all three seasons at once. This is what the 300 is waiting for you to see. The crossing is not a journey toward a single room where you finally arrive and close all the windows. The crossing is a journey toward understanding that all three seasons live in one body, one heart, one life—and that you are not breaking under the weight of holding them. You are transforming. Not dims. Not fades. Deepens. Not three separate lives but one life, finally, seen whole.
