Soul Urge 22—The Music Only Lives in Motion
You are being asked to hold two contradictory things at once — to be the person who has figured something out, and to stay open to being completely wrong about it the moment you step forward to teach or lead. You are expected to know what you know and to know that what you know is shifting even as you speak it. The exhaustion in this is real, and it lives in your body as a kind of constant tremor, a never-settling of the ground you thought was solid.
There is a reason you cannot rest into a single answer, a single truth, a single way of being. It is not a failure. It is the entire design of your soul’s work — and once you understand it, the tension itself becomes the music.
The bow and the tuning
Picture a violinist mid-rehearsal. The bow is drawn across the strings in long, deliberate strokes—but the instrument itself is being tuned, the pegs turned even as the music is being played. The note begins true, but within two measures it has shifted. What you need now is not more certainty but better companionship. Find people, even one person, who understand that transformation is not betrayal. Find a therapist or mentor who knows that a person can be completely authentic on Tuesday and a different kind of authentic on Friday and both of them are true. This is not weakness—seeking out people who can hold the both-and of you is wisdom. Real help, trusted counsel, people who have learned to listen to the moving target instead of the position someone held last week—these are not optional. They are the only way the 22 survives without burning out from the loneliness of being required to be your own audience.
Second, stop waiting for permission to teach or lead from a place of incompleteness. The thing you are most afraid to say out loud is: “I do not know how this ends, and I am teaching anyway.” That is exactly the credential you have been given. The people who need you do not need your finished answers. They need someone who is alive in the middle of their own becoming and still showing up to help them become too. You are the musician playing the instrument while it is being tuned, and that is what makes the music real.

- Find one person in your life who has not asked you to stay still. Call them and tell them what you are carrying right now. Not the polished version—the raw, shifting version. Let them hear how alive you are in the middle of not-knowing.
- The next time you teach or lead or guide someone, say out loud: “This is what I understand right now, and I am willing to understand it differently tomorrow if life shows me something new.” Watch what happens. Most people will breathe a sigh of relief. They have been waiting for permission to be alive in motion too.
The music only lives in motion
